Armed standoff in Cedar Bluff ends after SWAT response, KCSO says

KCSO said the man barricaded himself inside an apartment in the Dutchtown Road and Cedar Bluff area on Thursday, prompting nearby apartments to evacuate.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man is in custody after an armed standoff in the Cedar Bluff area, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

KCSO said officers responded to an apartment in the Dutchtown Road area Thursday afternoon to talk with someone concerning an ongoing investigation. They said the Family Crimes Unit was contacted by Adult Protective Services about a possible neglected adult.

KCSO said a 92-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital with severe medical issues, and the Family Crimes Unit went to her apartment off Cedar Bluff Road to investigate further. There, the sheriff's office said deputies tried speaking with her live-in son.

Deputies said the man refused to come out, and SWAT was called in after the man barricaded himself inside the apartment with weapons.

Other apartments nearby were evacuated as SWAT responded, and parents in the area said La Petit Academy on Dutchtown Road was put on lockdown. KCSO said the man was later taken into custody.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
