KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two 16-year-olds were arrested after running from officers in a stolen car early Sunday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of "in-progress" vehicle burglaries at The Park at Fountain City apartment complex around 2:30 a.m., KPD said.
A green Kia Soul that had just been reported stolen from the apartment complex was spotted driving south on Broadway. After confirming it was the stolen vehicle, officers attempted to pull the car over but a pursuit began, according to KPD.
The pursuit continued until three suspects ran away from the stolen Kia in the parking lot of The Vistas on Hall Of Fame Drive. After a brief pursuit and with the help of some Knox County Sheriff's Office deputies, two of the three suspects were captured, KPD said.
One of the suspects was found to have a black ski mask, gloves and a screwdriver. The second suspect was found with a mask and gloves, according to KPD.
The two suspects were charged with motor vehicle theft, evading arrest, possession of burglary tools and reckless endangerment, KPD said.
After a continued investigation, the two suspects were also charged with attempted auto theft and auto burglary from a similar incident that happened on Kenyon Street earlier in the night, according to KPD.
