Original Story:

A woman accused of tipping a fugitive off about officers shortly after the deadly shooting of a Blount County deputy has been released from jail on bond.

According to the Sevier County General Sessions Court, Carrie Matthews has been released after posting a $350,000 bond. She was arraigned in court on Monday.

Matthews is accused of being an accessory to Kenneth Wayne DeHart Jr. after the fact following the fatal shooting of Blount County Sheriff's Office Deputy Greg McCowan and the non-fatal shooting of Deputy Shelby Eggers on the night of Feb. 8. Officers said she was DeHart's girlfriend.

According to the arrest warrant, Matthews is accused of tipping DeHart off about officers who came to her home in Sevier County around 9:40 p.m. shortly after the shooting. The warrant said she answered a call from "Janeisha" while officers were at her home, but "Janeisha" was actually DeHart.

The warrant said Matthews told DeHart "they're here" and hung up.

"This action by Ms. Matthews warned DeHart of impending apprehension or discovery," the arrest warrant said.

Matthews is next scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on March 15.

She was released the same day DeHart's brother, Marcus DeHart, appeared in court in Blount County on similar charges of accessory after the fact. You can read more about his case at this link.
