Blount Co. Sheriff's Office warns of unendorsed sales related to fallen deputy

The sheriff's office said people should be cautious if they want to buy a t-shirt or other items in memory of Greg McCowan or to support Shelby Eggers.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Blount County Sheriff's Office said people should be cautious if they want to buy items in memory of a fallen deputy or to support another wounded deputy.

It said on social media that the sheriff's office only endorsed three lines of t-shirts. By endorsing the sales, it guaranteed proceeds from their sales would be donated to the family of Greg McCowan, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop, and Shelby Eggers, who was wounded in the shooting.

BCSO said it previously endorsed sales from Pokey's and Sports, Blue Line Tennessee, and Boujee Lady. The online sale from Pokey's and Sports has since ended, according to its webpage.

"We are not aware of any other T-shirt or memorabilia sale in which profits are being donated to the families," BCSO said on social media. "We live in the absolute best community. Thank you for your continued support of Deputy McCowan’s family, Deputy Shelby Eggers, and all of our local law enforcement officers."

BCSO also said people should ask before buying items in honor of McCowan or Eggers to make sure proceeds would be donated to them.
