BCSO: Seymour man charged with criminal homicide, victim identified after Thursday shooting

Robert P. Berry, 40, is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $1 million bond after being charged with criminal homicide, BCSO said.

SEYMOUR, Tenn. — UPDATE (7/27): Investigators have charged a Seymour man with criminal homicide after a shooting on Thursday, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office

BCSO said investigators charged the man after an investigation into a fatal shooting of another man that occurred Thursday night In Seymour. 

Robert P. Berry, 40, is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $1 million bond after being hit with the criminal homicide charge, BCSO said. Berry is scheduled to appear in Blount County General Sessions Court at 1:30 p.m. EDT on July 31.

"Thursday evening, deputies responded to a residence on Maples Road in Seymour after Berry called Blount County Communications and told them that he shot his roommate," BCSO said. "When deputies arrived, Berry surrendered peacefully." 

According to BCSO, deputies then found the victim, Clinton A. Lovingood, 51, inside the home with a gunshot wound. 

"Medics with AMR Ambulance Service attempted to revive Mr. Lovingood, but were unsuccessful," BCSO said. 

Lovingood was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Knox County Regional Forensics Center, according to BCSO. 

"Sheriff’s investigators are continuing their inquiry into the shooting. Additional information will be released as it becomes available," the Sheriff's Office said.

PREVIOUS STORY: Blount County deputies took a person into custody after a deadly shooting in Seymour on Thursday.

One person died in the shooting on Maple Road.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office said deputies took a person of interest into custody. That person is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility, and charges are pending.

Deputies had not released the identity of the person of interest or the name of the victim as of Friday evening.

"Investigators are continuing their inquiry into the incident. More information will be released as it becomes available," BCSO said.
