While we all want to show off that shiny, beloved, hand-me-down car or share our hometown pride, publishing this personal information to the public can be making you a prime victim for scammers.
Often times, especially during the quarantine, we catch ourselves aimlessly scrolling on social media looking for something to entertain us. A new trend has been the Facebook challenges and questionnaires, like the one asking you to share pictures of all your past vehicles.
Unfortunately, what is supposed to be a fun way to take a trip down memory lane can have consequences.
Officials are warning citizens to be aware of these posts that have been circulating around social media because of the potential of hackers using these posts to access your personal information, including the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
Think about it, one of the most commonly asked security questions is, “What was your first vehicle?” This along with the questionnaires that often ask, “Where did you attend school?” or “Where were you born?”
All of these questions, while they seem harmless, can be used to access your online banking or email. Many of those are used as security questions for your personal information.
Officials are encouraging you to not participate in these challenges and protect your personal information.
We know we have a lot of time on our hands these days, but make sure to keep your guard up when surfing the web and sharing with our friends. Something as little as a Facebook post could put you at risk.
