BELL COUNTY, Ky. — The Bell County Sheriff's Department said a man was arrested after shooting someone twice Sunday night.

Deputies responded to a Blue Ridge Church Road home after learning that 20-year-old Matthew Shelton, who supposedly shot the victim, was there, BCSD said.

When at the house, deputies found Shelton and two other witnesses. Shelton said the victim had exited the home running with his hand behind his back and Shelton felt "like he was going to be hurt," so he shot the victim twice, BCSD said.

The victim was taken to the hospital by a separate family member, according to BCSD.

Shelton was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, BCSD said.
