MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A man was arrested in Maryville on Friday after an attempted bank robbery, according to the Maryville Police Department.
The department said police responded to a holdup alarm call at a CBBC Bank at around 9:58 a.m. While heading to the bank, police said employees called 911 and confirmed that a robbery was in progress.
When police arrived at the bank, they said they saw Juan Anders Valle, from Marble, North Carolina, wearing a face mask and sunglasses. He was taken into custody without incident at the bank, MPD said in a release.
Police said they cleared the bank and swept through the area, to make sure the scene was safe.
"We responded in an abundance of caution that there could be more than one until we were confident there were no other perpetrators at large," said Tony Crisp, the Maryville Police Chief, in the release. "I commend the employees of CBBC bank for their professional and calm response during this very tense situation."
Schools in the area were also notified about the attempted robbery and locked down. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also told and started its own investigation since banks are federally insured.
Valle was charged with a county of attempted aggravated robbery and is being held on a $50,000 bond, with a hearing set for Oct. 31.
