KPD: Total of 7 juveniles arrested on weapon and auto theft charges after police take barricaded suspect into custody in South Knox Co.

The Knoxville Police Department said before the barricaded situation, the suspect was in a stolen car that drove away from officers.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said Tuesday that an armed suspect who barricaded inside a camper on the 5300 block of West Martin Mill Pike was taken into custody along with six other juveniles.

KPD said officers saw an SUV on Maryville Pike at around 1 p.m. Tuesday that had been reported stolen in Sevier County and tried to pull it over. However, KPD said the car did not stop. Around 45 minutes later, KPD said officers received a report that two people wearing black had run throughout their yard heading to a home on the 5300 block of West Martin Mill Pike.

KPD said a juvenile who was in the stolen car was found inside the home, while six others were found inside a camper behind it. Four of those juveniles left the camper and were taken into custody without incident.

However, police said a 16-year-old who was armed with two guns refused to leave the camper and barricaded himself inside. KPD said officers spoke with him for 90 minutes alongside personnel from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

The armed suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the seventh juvenile was found hiding inside the camper after the armed suspect was taken into custody.

KPD said officers found two guns along with several suspected Hydrocodone pills. The stolen SUV was found abandoned a "short distance" from the home. All seven juveniles face charges related to auto theft, weapon possession and evading arrest.

Additional information, such as the identity of any of the suspects, was not immediately available. Earlier on Tuesday, KPD had only identified one suspect involved
