KPD finds suspected fentanyl, thousands of dollars after responding to domestic dispute at Red Roof Inn in West Knoxville

According to Knoxville Police, an officer found over $4,000 in cash along with almost 40 grams of suspected fentanyl and a large amount of a suspected sitting agent.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department responded to a reported domestic disturbance at the Red Roof Inn on Kirby Road Tuesday night.

According to a report from the Knox County Sheriff's Office, E911 received a call where they heard a woman saying, "Move, I can't go back," and a man responded, "Give me my stuff."

After arriving at the scene, a KPD officer saw a woman sitting in the front driver's seat while a man stood outside the car with the passenger door open. The officer approached the car and separated them.

According to the report, the man told the officer that he and the woman were not arguing or fighting.

According to KCSO, the officer conducted an NCIC check and found the man, identified as 34-year-old Anthony Blackman Jr., had an outstanding warrant for field criminal indictment for robbery.

While taking Blackman into custody, police searched him and found $4,678. KPD then searched the car and found two marijuana cigarettes and a black and red backpack.

KCSO said the backpack contained "a clear plastic baggie with multiple knotted corner baggies with each baggie containing a tan/brown powder-like substance consistent with fentanyl (approximately 37 grams), multiple dark powdered substances in baggies believed to be cutting agents to assist in the distribution of narcotics, sandwich baggies, white latex gloves, a blender and a blue digital scale."

The woman denied knowing that the narcotics and paraphernalia were in her trunk. Blackman told the officer the narcotics and paraphernalia belonged to him, according to the report.

He then said he was leaving the Red Roof Inn and the woman was there to pick him up without any knowledge of the narcotics and paraphernalia in the backpack.

A witness, a Red Roof Inn employee, said he checked Blackman out of the hotel when he noticed him carrying a black duffel bag and a red and black backpack. The witness then said he saw Blackman hand the bag to the woman who then put it in the trunk and waited for him in the car. It was then the argument ensued between them both for unknown reasons.

Blackman has been charged with manufacture, sale or delivery of schedule II drugs, KPD said.
