Anderson Co. Sheriff's Office warns about scam claiming victims missed court date, ordering them to pay money

ACSO said scammers pretend to be deputies who would call them about either a missed court date or missed jury duty, before claiming victims must pay a fine.

ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — People in Anderson County should be aware of a scam that involves scammers calling people and claiming they missed either jury duty or a court date. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said scammers would then tell them they needed to pay a fine to avoid being arrested.

The scammers can claim to be from the sheriff's office, using a specific name. The sheriff's office said on social media Tuesday that it received a report from people who said they received a call from "Sergeant Johnson" who said they needed to pay a fine.

The sheriff's office said they would never call anyone to try collecting money to avoid an arrest. It also said anyone who receives a scam call should immediately hang up and call the sheriff's office at 865-457-4214 to report it.
