CCSO: Man charged with DUI among others after high-speed chase in Crossville, no injuries reported

A deputy was initially dispatched after calls of a man in a minivan stopped in the middle of the road and was screaming at people on South Main Street.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. — A Cumberland County man is facing multiple charges after a high-speed chase in Crossville Thursday evening.

According to a report from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the Cumberland Police Department received calls of a man in a silver minivan stopped in the middle of the road and screaming at people on South Main Street. The caller also told dispatch that the car was all over the road, almost causing several accidents.

A CCSO deputy saw the minivan traveling at an extremely high rate on Lantana Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Adam Berrier, started to accelerate even more, CCSO said. The minivan was going approximately 80 mph.

Berrier continued driving in the wrong lane, running other motorists off the road. He then attempted to make a sharp, quick left turn onto Lantana Drive, according to the report. The deputy followed him when he made a right turn back onto Lantana Road and continued driving at a high speed towards town.

Berrier was driving even more erratic at 90 mph while giving the deputy the middle finger from the window several times.

As the pursuit continued, CCSO deputies deployed spike strips, to which Berrier's passenger side tires went flat, CCSO said. A second set of spike strips were deployed flattening the driver's side tires. He continued driving over the speed limit intentionally swerving at law enforcement and struck three patrol units.

The CPD officer and CCSO deputies were not injured.

After the car was forced off the road, Berrier was taken into custody. He was checked and treated by EMS for minor injuries and was taken to intake for booking.

CCSO officials said Berrier had red, watery eyes and a strong alcoholic odor when he was brought in. They then searched the car and found an almost empty bottle of James Foxe Canadian Whiskey.

While in custody, a deputy took a blood sample from Berrier. While waiting for the results, Berrier told the deputy several times he had "drank too much and it causes him to act in this manner," CCSO said.

Berrier's blood was taken and placed into evidence to be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation lab for analysis.

According to CCSO, Berrier has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a vehicle/felony, evading arrest, driving with a revoked or suspended license, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
