SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Investigators say 53 people were arrested Wednesday as part of an ongoing undercover operation.

Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals said a total of 90 people were indicted in the investigation earlier this month. The 53 people arrested are part of that number. As of Wednesday, investigators were still searching for the remaining 37.

Most of the 53 people were charged with sale and delivery of schedule I or schedule II narcotics. Some faced additional charges, including drug-free school zone, criminal conspiracy and child abuse.

Investigators from various agencies began the arrests at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The operation was dubbed "Safe Streets Belitz" and was led by the Sevier County Street Crimes Narcotics Unit.

This is an ongoing investigation.
