Five Cocke County jail inmates are charged with playing a part in a fire deliberately set last month in the jail annex.
The TBI identified the men as John Thomas Shehee, Lance L. McCabe, Glenn A. Mantooth and Austin Fine, all of Newport; and Joey D. Cate, now serving a prison sentence.
Shehee, 28, is charged with arson. McCabe, 42, Mantooth, 27, and Fine, 22, are charged with criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony. Cate, who is at the North West Correctional Complex on unrelated charges, is charged with criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony, according to the TBI.
Warrants were obtained Sept. 9 for the men.
The fire was set Aug. 15. It caused minor damage and no one was hurt. The men were inmates at the time.
