KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said an 11-year-old was taken into custody and charged with threatening mass violence at Vine Middle School. The police department said the incident was unrelated to school-related threats that recently circulated on social media.

The police department said a school resource officer went to Vine Middle School to investigate a report that a student had made a school shooting threat. Specific information about the threat was not immediately available.

KPD said it investigated the report with Knox County School Security, and detectives conducted a home visit at the student's home. It said officers found no weapons and were told that the student did not have access to weapons.

"After consulting with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office, the student was charged for making a threat of mass violence and was taken into custody on Tuesday evening," KPD said in a release.
