Two Knox County, Ky., law enforcement officers are on administrative leave for a fatal officer-involved shooting after a child abduction on Wednesday night.
A Knox County deputy sheriff shot and killed Jessie J. Mills, 30, of Flat Lick, Ky.
Kentucky State Police received a call that Mills was intoxicated at a home on Moore Creek Road, had abducted a child and left the area around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday.
A Knox County deputy sheriff and constable found Mills and the child walking on State Highway 223 about two miles away from the Moore Creek Road home around 11 p.m.
An altercation ensued after the two officers approached Mills. The deputy sheriff fired his service weapon, and killed Mills.
The Knox County Coroner’s Office pronounced Mills dead at the scene.
The names of the two law enforcement officers will be released at a later time, according to a release from Kentucky State Police.
Authorities took Mills’ body to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The investigation is ongoing.
