WASHINGTON D.C., DC — A Knoxville family is on Capitol Hill this week to voice their support for more border security.
The Corcoran family spoke out to honor the memory of Pierce Corcoran, 22, who was killed in a crash on Chapman Highway three weeks ago.
Police said a driver crossed the center line and hit Pierce's car. Investigators have said the alleged driver is an undocumented immigrant. He was being held in an ICE holding facility.
"I am honored that the family of Pierce Corcoran invited me to join them outside the Capitol today to stand up for border security. His death could have been avoided," Cong. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville) wrote in a tweet on Tuesday. "Members of the House and Senate must be willing to put national security ahead of party politics."

The Corcoran family met with Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) on Wednesday.
“The Corcoran family is to be commended for their strength and fortitude following the death of Pierce,” said Blackburn. “They deserve our most heartfelt condolences and our solemn commitment to secure the border so that no more families will have to endure the tragic loss of a loved one at the hands of an illegal immigrant.”
The senator also shared news of the meeting and their message on Twitter.
