Owner of 2 radio stations in Unicoi Co. plans to come back to the airwaves after Helene flooding

"Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't still there," Maria True said.

UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. — Her name and voice are familiar to many in Erwin, Tenn.

Maria True is the owner of WEMB and WXIS radio stations and she said she will be back on the airwaves soon.

"Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't still here," True said.

True said her entire building is gone but that doesn't mean she won't be there for her community. Just because the building is gone does not mean the radio station is dead.

"It used to be right there where we harnessed the magic of WEMB and WXIS but the building decided to roll on down the river," she said.

She said she should be able to be back on the air by Friday to help the people of Erwin.

"And that’s another beautiful thing about Appalachia too is that we are brothers and sisters when this happens and this makes me so happy to be a hill Billy from East Tennessee," True said.
