Deadline application extended for Mountain Ways' Helene disaster relief

Mountain Ways is a nonprofit that aims to preserve Appalachian culture and heritage by giving back and loving its neighbors.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Mountain Ways announced they will extend its Relief and Recovery application deadline in an effort to reach more survivors who are in need of help.

The nonprofit extended the deadline to Monday, Nov. 18 at midnight.

Direct financial disaster relief is available to individuals or families (homeowner or renter) with a 100% total loss of their primary residence in the following eligible counties:

  • Tennessee: Cocke, Carter, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington
  • Western North Carolina: Ashe, Avery, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, Yancey and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians

"Plans are underway for the first financial distribution day on Friday, Nov. 15, for Cocke, Hamblen, and Greene counties," Lori Moore, executive director of Mountain Ways, said. "The second financial distribution day is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 20, for Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties. An invitation letter will be emailed to the primary applicant approved for disaster relief with details. We are honored to embody the values of the Appalachian region by giving back and loving our neighbors.”

Donations to Mountain Ways are needed to support flood survivors in Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Mountain Ways will ensure that 100% of funds raised go directly to survivors of the affected communities.
