KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — An event meant to bring together neighbors and give the East Knoxville community a chance to have fun is kicking off Saturday afternoon.
The Good Neighbors Community Block Party is starting at 12 p.m. on the 2600 block of Linden Avenue. Vendors and food trucks will be at the event, and attendees will be able to stop by a bounce house or play games.
During the event, Kingdom Life Church of Knoxville will host a "repack the sack" event for school supplies. Proceeds from the event will also go towards scholarships for graduates in East Knoxville.
"It's important to me because I think it's important to give back. I think it's important, especially for me as a minister in this community, that we need to do something to give back, whatever small contribution we can make. We're in a society where things are just so rough right now. Some people feel hopeless. And sometimes just coming together, laughing and smiling with other people, it helps to bring hope back," said Bishop Farris Long, an organizer of the event.
