(WBIR-UNION COUNTY) The Union County jail received certification Wednesday -- a step that saves the county money in several different ways.
Sheriff Billy Breeding started taking steps when he took office to make sure the jail would eventually become certified.
Breeding says he's proud of the work his staff did to help get the jail certified.
"We had a lot of problems with our policy and procedure, but we worked closely with the state," he explained. "It took us a year, but to achieve all those and we just recently today received certification."
The jail had other infrastructure problems with lighting, windows and sewage. All of those have since been corrected.
