A Blount County charity has turned an old apartment building into a place to help struggling families get back on their feet.
Family Promise of Blount County helps homeless families in the area. Working with Blount Leadership, they made the four-unit building on Grant Street a reality.
Families use the transitional housing to focus on job hunting and finding a permanent place to live. It's hoped that after families settle into the rehabbed building, they can begin looking for permanent housing.
"This is a transitional house for families who have been in the emergency shelter program of Family Promise will live in after they leave. They're homeless. And they will stay here for up to 12 months to really get on their feet before they move into permanent housing," said Kathi Parkins, executive director of Family Promise.
On Thursday at Live at 5 at 4, viewers can see the finished space and also meet a family that will benefit.
