President Biden approves emergency declaration for Tennessee

FEMA has announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Tennessee to supplement response efforts to Hurricane Helene conditions.
The announcement comes after some Democratic leaders had called for President Biden to drop out of the presidential race following a debate against Donald Trump.

TENNESSEE, USA — President Joe Biden has approved an emergency declaration for Tennessee due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

FEMA announced Saturday that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Tennessee to supplement response efforts due to Hurricane Helene's emergency conditions.

According to FEMA, President Biden's action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to alleviate hardship and suffering caused by the emergency and provide any needed assistance beginning Sept. 26 and continuing.

Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures.

Darryl L. Drago has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.
