Farragut business sees increase in foot traffic for tax-free weekend

Shop Farragut also started the Great Farragut Sidewalk Sale to give customers more options and boost the local economy.

FARRAGUT, Tenn. — As the tax-free weekend ends, some businesses in Farragut said they saw great turnout and sales.

However, businesses like The Shoppes at Homespun in the Village Green shopping center said a new initiative by Shop Farragut helped their sales.

For the first time, the city hosted the Great Farragut Sidewalk Sale, allowing vendors to set up booths outside participating stores.

"The town of Farragut offered this sidewalk sale to boost the economy of the town of Farragut and for Knox County," Angela Robbins, one of the vendors for Homespun said.

Robbins also mentioned at a time where inflation is high, it was nice to see dozens of people head to shop and find good deals.

"Vendors, just like the customers, are struggling a little bit because this is a tough economic time," Robbins said. "So we are happy to offer additional savings so it will actually come back to us."

One mother said she took advantage of the tax-free weekend to buy school supplies for her daughter, as well as new clothes.

"I mean kids are wonderful but expensive," Katie Gillman said. "So being able to save some dollars is great."
