ROCKWOOD, Tenn. — A Loudon company that designs and manufactures parts for different kinds of boats is expected to spend around $25 million to expand its manufacturing operations in Rockwood.
According to a release from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Protomet Corporation plans to buy and retrofit the former Albahealth building on North Gateway Avenue, using it as a new manufacturing facility.
The release said the facility is expected to be "state-of-the-art," and also said Protomet has other manufacturing operations in Loudon County and Anderson County. The company is expected to hire around 250 people at the facility.
After completing the new facility, the company is expected to have around 500 employees in Tennessee.
