KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A popular restaurant in South Knoxville is closing its doors to make room for a bigger food hall.
Burger Boys announced Monday that the restaurant would serve its last customers. In it, the restaurant said its owner, Andre Bryant, decided to grant Kerns Food Hall, an upcoming hub of restaurants and bars being built out of the historic Kern's Bakery building, could have direct access to a traffic light in the area.
"This seemingly selfless act highlights his commitment to being a part of the solution rather than an obstacle in the face of progress," Burger Boys' announcement on social media said. "Andre’s journey with the Kerns development began over three years ago when he met Alex Dominguez, the developer behind the project. Throughout their interactions, Andre was struck by Alex’s genuine character and the absence of any undue pressure or coercion. In fact, the two forged a strong friendship over the years, fostering a sense of trust and goodwill."
The release also said it's uncertain if Burger Boys will relocate. Bryant said he wanted a break from serving food, to reflect on the next steps of his career. The release said he would share when he decides on "the perfect location for the new Burger Boys in the near future."
Burger Boys was located at 2400 Chapman Hwy., in Knoxville. Its menu featured large burgers, fried chicken, collard greens, mac and cheese, yams, chicken livers and ribs.
