NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee woman who needs another heart transplant is facing another setback. Jordon Hensley received a heart transplant 17 years ago and she now needs a second one.
A committee at Vanderbilt University Medical Center voted against putting her on the transplant list. Hensley and her mom Jessica Williams are still holding out hope Jordon will receive a new heart soon.
Hope was on the horizon last week when Ascension St. Thomas in Nashville started processing Jordon’s insurance for a transplant but ultimately was not able to go through with the procedure.
“She said Jordon’s case is very complex," Jessica said. "Her anatomy is different because of the congenital heart defect. And they felt it was too difficult for them. Jordon was actually really upset. She told them to call me because she was upset about it. Which she understands too. But at the same time, it was just another decline.”
Jessica said she got in contact with the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. She said Jordon’s records are being sent over from Vanderbilt. And now, they wait, but Jordon’s heart can’t wait forever.
“Right now, she is healthy enough and her body can take her heart," she said. "But what is she going to be like in a month from now, or two months from now?”
But while Jordon waits, she continues to pass milestones. Her birthday is right around the corner and she is now a fiancé.
Jessica said they are not giving up hope and she has appreciated the community’s support during this time.
