(WBIR-Knoxville) Some special guests made an appearance in the Old City Sunday to read a holiday classic and encourage literacy.
Santa and Mrs. Claus stopped by the Historic Southern Railway Station to read the Polar Express to kids.
They gathered in an old train car.
Organizers said the kids were overjoyed and can't wait for the Christmas holiday.
"They're so excited. I love to see the kids having a good time but they're so excited to see Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas and hear the stories. We're reading the Polar Express story so they really like that " said Mrs. Claus.
Attendees brought donations of notebook paper, markers and other school supplies to benefit the Friends of Literacy program.
