Family and friends celebrate the life of 'PMan,' a 12-year-old boy known for his loving spirit

Preston Wells was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2019. He died overnight into the morning of Dec. 8.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Wednesday, friends and family remembered the life of a beloved boy known for his fierce generosity and for having an enduring, loving spirit.

Preston Wells, otherwise known as "PMan," was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2019. In early December 2023, his fight with the disease came to an end. He spent his life spreading kindness and connecting with people from all corners of the community.

His family received friends at the Harriman High School gymnasium from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. on Wednesday before a funeral service led by Bro. Randy Wells. Graveside services are also set for Thursday afternoon at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

According to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, PMan had previously sent notes to servicemembers and provided blankets to other patients in the hospital who needed extra comfort. Last year, he also wrote more than 200 Christmas cards for inmates in Roane County.

"Tears are prayers too. They travel to God when you can't speak," one of his cards said. "Remember you are loved."

In 2021, PMan also hosted a yard sale and raised money to help buy food for shelter pets.

Harriman Middle School, where PMan played football, said the "Harriman Community experienced a great loss of one of our own."

PMan's family and friends have WBIR's deepest condolences.
