(WBIR, Knoxville) It's not a new sport, but it's gaining popularity in Knoxville.
Pickleball is a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, and it's being played at several recreation centers in Knoxville.
There is open gym every Monday and Thursday from 11:00 to 2:00 at Deane Hill Recreation Center, and the City of Knoxville is hoping to expand the program into other areas.
Bobby Walker has been playing for about three weeks and says it is a great way to stay active.
"I got the fever! And I was out the next time they had it here. And it's fun and very competitive. For being this young in Knoxville, there are some men and ladies out here that really know how to play this game. I love it. Come on out here and play with us," said Walker.
Even kids are joining in the fun. Workers at Deane Hill Rec Center say they allow children to play pickleball after school.
