Dolly Parton announces new family album and docuseries; will have show taping at Bijou Theatre

Dolly said the projects are near and dear to her and her family's hearts and will give her a chance to pay homage to their roots and heritage.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Dolly isn't slowing down any time soon. The East Tennessee songbird announced she's working on an album with her family during the grand opening of The Dolly Parton Experience Friday.

Dolly said the album will be called "Dolly Parton and Family: Smoky Mountain DNA - Family, Faith and Fables." She said the album takes you on a journey through her family's musical history and heritage from the United Kingdom to East Tennessee.

"It's a project that's near and dear to all of our hearts," Dolly said. "It's not just a journey for an album but it's a journey through our family's musical history, our heritage and celebrating the evolution from the UK to the Smoky Mountains and beyond."

After announcing her upcoming album, Dolly surprised the crowd with a new docuseries. She said the series will pay homage to her family's roots and the stories that define them.

"It's always good, I think, to know who you are and where you're from," Dolly said.

Starting Tuesday, May 28, Dolly and her family will be at the Bijou Theatre holding a show taping for Smoky Mountain DNA. The sold-out event will be from Tuesday to Thursday, May 30.

The docuseries is expected to come out in the fall.
