KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A former Tennessee Football player who found a place in the College Football Hall of Fame died on May 25, according to Tennessee Athletics.

A release said he was 75 years old and died in Cohutta, Georgia. In 2006, he became the 21st Vols player to be chosen to the College Football Hall of Fame. He started with the Vols as part of the 1966-1967 recruiting class from Avondale High School, in Decatur, Georgia. He placed center in 1968 as a sophomore and moved positions in 1969.

He and his teammates ended their Tennessee varsity careers with a 43-13 win over Air Force in the 1971 Sugar Bowl, ending on a ten-game win streak and 28-5-1 overall.

Kell was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the 17th round of the 1971 draft and played for two seasons.

Tennessee Athletics said funeral arrangements are pending for him.
