Each new day brings a new days worth of twists and turns at The Smoky Mountain Balloon Company in Sevierville. Billy Munsey uses his creativity to turn typical latex balloons into works of art.
"I can create flowers and bracelets," said Munsey. "I can do roses I do twists."
For nearly 5 years, Munsey has created balloon art for weddings, football games, high school proms as well as balloon centerpieces for countless businesses in the area.
According to Billy Munsey, "We do smaller decor, we do centerpieces. We kind of range from small to the large that's why we can fit in with your budget range."
Munsey went through intensive training before joining The Smoky Mountain Balloon Company in 2009. Since then, he's created several different types of designs. The oddest? Munsey says it was a tiger's head.
"We had Pigeon Forge Middle school wanted (the tiger's head) on their football field for homecoming," recalled Munsey. "Ben (business partner) gave me a picture and said 'here, you have six weeks to create this'. Never done anything like that and we got a prototype down and we've sold about 3 of them since then."
Munsey says they try to use air filled balloons because it's cheaper and lasts longer. Still, he says he pops a few balloons frequently while building one of their creations. Still, Munsey admits the balloons cheer him up.
"Who doesn't like to work with balloons?," he said with a laugh. "Bring the kid out in you? It's a fun fun job."
