Farragut kicks off holiday season with light display at Founders Park, stretching to Kingston Pike

The event included live entertainment, crafts and a dazzling display of lights.

FARRAGUT, Tenn. — Members of the Farragut community gathered at Founders Park on Monday to kick off the holiday season with a dazzling light display.

The event lasted from 5:30 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. on Monday, and people could enjoy live entertainment and crafts before the holiday lights shined on them. The lights span through an area of North Campbell Station Road, featuring more than 100,000 bulbs. The event started in 2011, according to Bud McKelvey, Farragut's Public Works Director.

"We have about a mile and a quarter of extension cords, that help facilitate this," he said in a video posted by the Town of Farragut. "It started here at Founders Park as a minor event and now runs all the way from the communal lot all the way to Kingston Pike, along Campbell Station Road, and we're filling in the gaps as we go."

Santa even stopped by Monday's event, helping turn on the lights.

Crews built a lighted canopy near Campbell Station Inn as part of the event and added wreaths along a brick wall near Farragut High School. There is also a 63-foot Christmas tree and a 44-foot tree near Campbell Station Inn.

"We designed those and built those ourselves, and we put them up each year," said McKelvey.

The light display will be up through the New Year's holiday, he said.
