KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Nash, a 10-year-old living with cystic fibrosis from Maryville, is the definition of grit.
He loves baseball and is a huge fan of the University of Tennessee. Nash has dreams of hitting a home run and celebrating with his own UT Daddy Hat, according to a release.
The national nonprofit, Dream On 3, helps kids and young adults living with life-altering conditions realize their sports dreams. The Collegiate Dream Team, one of Dream On 3's programs, offers students on college campuses nationwide a way to work together to make a sports dream come true.
Even though Nash lives with cystic fibrosis, it did not hinder his passion for wanting to play baseball. He continues to pursue the sport he loves the most with determination and perseverance. Nash was selected by the University of Tennessee Collegiate Dream Team, a group of students who will help him realize his dream of being a part of collegiate sports as he spends time as a VIP of UT Athletics.
The CDT arranged for Nash to enjoy all UT has to offer including a shopping spree at the bookstore, tickets to the men's basketball game, a campus tour, a tour of the famous Neyland Stadium, the opportunity to throw the first pitch at the UT baseball game and more, according to a release.
“These students have been working all fall and winter long to engage the community and build relationships with Nash," Brad Hurn, national director of CDT Programming for DO3. "What they have been able to achieve from a fundraising perspective is quite impressive, however, the real impact here are the friendships and experiences that Nash and the CDT members will walk away with."
Nash's dream starts Wednesday afternoon at Coulter Grove Intermediate School, with a surprise send-off including members of the UT CDT.
