'Symphony on the Square' includes performance developed by 13-year-old diagnosed with leukemia

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra said the performance would be held in the First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, on State Street.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra hosted a free, family-friendly performance Thursday evening. Alongside classical music and symphonies, Make-A-Wish East Tennessee said a child's song would be performed.

It's part of Knoxville's Symphony on the Square concert, an annual performance that gives people a chance to enjoy live music by the orchestra. It's usually held in Market Square, but organizers said Thursday's performance would be held at First Presbyterian Church Knoxville, located at 620 State Street, due to concerns about the weather.

It started at 6:30 p.m. with performances such as an overture to "The Barber of Seville," and "Radetzky March." It also included a story created by a 13-year-old and turned into a song with the help of Make-A-Wish East Tennessee and The Sing Me a Story Foundation.

In July, Acheley had a wish granted to go to Disney World after having been diagnosed with leukemia. He said he wished to go to Disney World because he plans on becoming a cartoon artist. He later connected with The Sing Me a Story Foundation, showing off his talents and working with composer Mitchell T. Gilly to turn a story into a song — named "The Adventures of Guac and Cheese," also featuring drawings of the story.

People can donate to the song online, raising money for Make-A-Wish East Tennessee and The Sing Me a Story Foundation.
