Kingston woman turning 104 gets more than 200 cards for her birthday

Sarah Elizabeth Boles's birthday is on Feb. 26, but she's been celebrating all month long as people have been sending cards in.

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — It all started with an email.

Nikki Smith reached out to WBIR requesting a birthday card for her Mamaw's 104th birthday. And now, she said her grandma, Sarah Elizabeth Boles, has gotten a lot.

"I surely have, around 200," Boles said.

Earlier in the month, 10 News Reporter Lauren Davis traveled to Kingston and spoke with Boles about her birthday wish of getting cards.

Nikki said she could have even more. Sarah's birthday is on Feb. 26, but she's been celebrating all month long as people have been sending cards in.

"I just want to thank everyone that sent a card or even thought about it," she said.

Boles said getting all the cards and celebrating her birthday made her feel special.

"Yes it did," she said. "It did."

Her daughter, Linda Tipton, said her mom wished to see her kids grow up and now she's seen them start their own families.

"She was 38 when I was born and she said she prayed that she would live long enough for to see all of us raised and she said she must've prayed too hard," Tipton said.

Her family hosted her birthday party on Saturday at Cracker Barrel in Harriman, which she said is her favorite restaurant.

"I have my grandchild and several others to thank for putting on this party," Boles said.

Zoo Knoxville sent Mrs. Boles some gifts from their animals. They gave her a stuffed red panda and cards from the animals, including a poster with paw prints from the red pandas.

If you'd like to send a card to Elizabeth Boles, you can send them to: Elizabeth Boles, 107 King St, Kingston, TN 37763.

The City of Kingston also declared Feb. 26, 2024, as Sarah Elizabeth Boles Day to honor her.
