KNOXVILLE (WBIR) - Local celebrities paired up with llamas Saturday to raise money for students at the Great Llama Race at World's Fair Park in Knoxville.
The Great Llama Race benefits Casa de Sara, a charity that benefits international schools. Proceeds went to help its sponsor school in Bolivia and schools in Knoxville had a chance to win back some of the proceeds.
"The event is very unique and it's very fun," said Lori Santoro, founder of Casa de Sara. "It means a lot to our organization because it helps us raise money for children in Bolivia and it also helps kids here in Knoxville as well."
Santoro said 2014's Llama Race had more than 5,000 people attend and she expected this year's event exceeded that. She said the group plans to add new elements to the event each year as it grows.
Jordan Cooper, a teacher at the Tennessee School for the Deaf, won the race, so TSD will get money from the fundraiser.
WBIR's JJ Jones, the winner of the 2014 Llama Race, did not repeat his championship.
