East Tennessee woman one step closer to getting new heart after Vanderbilt medical committee voted against it

Jordon Hensley's mom, Jessica Williams, said she is hopeful her daughter will receive a new heart through Ascension St. Thomas.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — There is new hope for an East Tennessee woman who needs a heart transplant.

Jordon Hensley received a heart transplant around 17 years ago. But, since January she has been having complications. This week, her mom, Jessica Williams got the call that she and Jordon had been hoping and praying for.

Ascension St. Thomas, a medical facility in Nashville, told Jessica they were going to start processing Jordon’s insurance so she could get a heart transplant.

“How do you thank someone for saving your kid's life?” said Williams.

Time is of the essence for Jordon. She was discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Sunday. VUMC told her family they would reconsider putting her on the transplant list in four weeks.

But it wasn’t a promise.

“I can’t just sit around and let a month go by. With CAV, there’s no cure for it,” said Williams.

Jessica said it could take up to 15 days for the approval and insurance to go through. Right now, medicine is keeping Jordon’s heart beating.

“Seventeen medications and this is what’s keeping her heart together," she said.

But Jessica says she is incredibly hopeful and eternally thankful.

“That means the world to me,” she said. “As a mom, any parent can look at this and say they want their child to live. At 28 years old, you still have so much life. And Jordan is so full of life.”

There is no given date on when Jordan could receive her new heart.

10News did reach out to Ascension St. Thomas for comment but did not hear back as of Wednesday afternoon.
