KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It was a special day for one of Zoo Knoxville's primates on Monday. Stevie the chimp turned 2 years old!
Zoo Knoxville's staff celebrated Stevie with a special birthday surprise. The party was "Taylor Swift" themed and included a table where guests could make their own friendship bracelets.
Zookeepers said just like humans, chimps love to be spoiled.
"Oh, they love it," Crystal Mugan, Zoo Knoxville's lead keeper of great apes, said. "They get so excited, especially on parties, birthdays, whenever they get the special treats, the surprises... they're just like a kid. They get super excited, they love being spoiled, too."
Stevie the chimp was born at Zoo Knoxville on Earth Day. She had to be hand-raised due to complications from her birth. Stevie is currently being raised by her two surrogate moms Daisy and Jambo.
