ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — At the Little Ponderosa Zoo, the cat came back.
The three-legged Geoffrey's cat -- aptly named 'Geoffrey' -- is one of a few survivors from the devastating 2017 fire that destroyed the zoo's main barn and killed nearly 100 animals.
Nearly two years later, the cat went back on exhibit this week -- and the zoo said he's "already loving" his new house.
Geoffrey's cats are a type of South American wild cat that's about the size of your average house cat, and the zoo said it's home to one of only a few of the felines across the U.S. The zoo rescued Geoffrey after he lost his leg at his previous home.
Little Ponderosa Zoo isn't just a zoo -- it's also a rescue for exotic animals. The nonprofit takes in animals from across the U.S., and they estimate 98% of their animals are rescues.
The zoo said many people get exotic animals as pets, but realize later that they can't meet their new pet's needs. Exotic animals usually can't be adopted at shelters, so rescues like Little Ponderosa Zoo give them a new home.
Little Ponderosa Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and it's open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
