A look inside the new treehouse resort coming to Gatlinburg

Each treehouse is designed by Discovery's Pete Nelson and comes with a kitchenette and two queen beds

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — This isn't your typical Gatlinburg cabin — and definitely not your typical treehouse.

Nestled next to Norton Creek and still under construction, the Treehouse Resort starts taking reservations Monday.

Developer Joseph Ayres showed us around the tiny homes complete with two queen beds and a tiny kitchenette.

A night in one of these eight treehouses is expected to start at $280 and could go as high as $449.

"Kids can love it, couples can love it and who better to do it than Pete Nelson the treehouse master," Ayres said.

The Discovery star designed all eight cabins and is reportedly looking forward to returning for the grand opening.

With similar-looking rentals in North Georgia to glamping igloos near Asheville, this kind of high end and high altitude resort is a growing trend.

"We wanted to kind of create a new category at least in the Gatlinburg pigeon forge market," Ayres said.

It's a new resort with an old-fashioned idea of relaxation.

"Take a chair and you go down on the creek on a hot summer day and you have a cooler of beers or a glass of wine and you kind of sit down and relax," he said.

Sleeping in the trees and under the stars.

Boy, doesn't that sound nice?
