Mighty Musical Monday celebrates Tennessee Theatre's anniversary and Dr. Bill Snyder's retirement

The Tennessee Theatre filled with admirers on this Mighty Musical Monday, a chance to celebrate 90 years since the theatre first opened its doors as well as the career of retiring House Organist Dr. Bill Snyder.

"This is the biggest crowd in years, "Executive Director Becky Hancock announced to the audience.

A portrait unveiled today of Snyder and the Mighty Wurlitzer organ will hang in the theatre's balcony.

Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero read a proclamation declaring today, October 1, 2018, Dr. Bill Snyder Day, and more.

"Dr. William T. 'Bill' Snyder is recognized for his distinguished service and is bestowed the title of House Organist Emeritus," she read.

He introduced his successor.

"It's been a great pleasure for me and the future of the Mighty Musical Monday is in terrific hands with Freddie Brabson who is now the House Organist," Snyder said.

The celebration ended on a high note as the organ slowly descended into the stage as Dr. Bill Snyder played The Tennessee Waltz.
