Celebrating the food and food creators of Maryville

In the past couple of decades, Maryville has become one of the top places in East Tennessee for new and exciting restaurants.

MARYVILLE, Tenn — The January 2024 Winter Storm has kept folks inside the house for a couple of weeks, and many are struggling with cabin fever. Now that the ice is melting, folks are heading outside again and looking for a good place to eat.

Recently, we spent the day in Maryville highlighting some of the restaurants and food creators who would make even the most cynical "foodie" take notice. A list of those locations is available below.

Vienna Coffee Company

Located at 212 College Street, Vienna Coffee Company is the place to see and be seen. On any given day, you're sure to enjoy good conversations with a good cup of coffee. John Clark started the company in his garage 20 years ago and brought the company to Maryville where it's become one of the city's most famous stops.

Miss Olivia

Longtime viewers of WBIR will recognize Olivia Sipe from her weekly appearances on our 4 p.m. show and for her restaurant, Miss Olivia's Table. She's also been the only local food contributor to the Features section of The Daily Times.

Miss Olivia's Table closed in 2022 but she's remained busy with some small catering jobs and with her column in The Daily Times featuring the recipes she makes herself. Miss Olivia says she's enjoying retirement, writing her column, visiting with her friends from the restaurant, and playing with her two corgis. Her column appears three times a month in the paper.

Hot Rods

Take a step back to the 1950s with a visit to this Alcoa landmark complete with dozens of specialty hamburgers, milkshakes and french fries.

Hot Rods 50's Diner is a family-owned business where you're sure to find something for everyone in the family. Hot Rods also features a "Chubby Challenge" which includes three beef patties, two bread buns, American Cheese, pickles, tomatoes, onions lettuce and a pound of fries. If you finish it in 30 minutes or less, you win a T-shirt and a photo on the Wall of Fame.

Biscuit Baker

Matthew Gagnon is a paramedic engineer with the Maryville Fire Department and has become one of the best cooks in the fire hall. He's known for making outstanding biscuits, which he recently served up to Maryville City Leaders.

Winter Market

The Maryville Farmers' Market will host a Winter Market on January 27, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Founders' Square on Broadway Avenue in Downtown Maryville. The Maryville Farmers' Market will reopen in the spring.

Foothills Milling Company

Already one of Maryville's most celebrated restaurants, Foothills Milling Company is expanding to include the Foothills Milling Cafe and J. Danforth Mercantile.
