1970s show introduced the General Lee and Daisy Dukes

Step back in time at Cooter's Place in Gatlinburg.

(WBIR-GATLINBURG) The Dukes of Hazzard starred Bo and Luke Duke and their cousin Daisy. Boss Hogg, Sheriff Roscoe, Uncle Jesse and Cooter rounded out the cast of the hit show.

"Grandma's house on Friday nights. Cousins and everybody would be there and she would be waiting for Dallas and Knot's Landing to come on but we would watch the Duke's of Hazzard before that," Melissa Groves said.

Melissa Groves welcomes you to Cooter's Place in Gatlinburg, founded by the guy who played Cooter, Ben Jones. His character owned a garage.

Memorabilia, items for sale, and even a themed miniature golf course help Cooter's Place captures the essence of the show set in the fictional Hazzard County.

"There was always a car chases. There was always a broken fence. There was always a bumbling Roscoe because something was going to happen with his and Boss Hogg's scheme. It was always interesting to see what would be the plot that week and who was going to get in trouble and who was going to get rescued," she said.

The most recognizable star may be the General Lee. That's the customized race car the Dukes of Hazzard used in car chases, jumps, and stunts. One of the many cars used on the show is on display in the front window of Cooter's Place.

"The car is what every little boy wants to drive, what every grown man wants to drive, and most women. It was powerful and it was fast and it's just a piece of our history," she said.

The show showcased a particular style

"Plaid flannel shirts, Daisy Dukes, cowboy boots, big belt buckles, and then Boss Hogg, even though he was a the bad guy, he wore the white suit," she said.

Don't forget the chest baring shirts the leg baring short shorts. You can see a pair of original Daisy Dukes that were created with a pair of scissors by the actress who played her: Catherine Bach.

That's a fashion statement still popular today.
