Making your own salad dressings

The ingredients listed on salad dressings can be overwhelming and unhealthy. Dietitian Heather Pierce from Blount Memorial Hospital has two simple recipes if you want to make your own salad dressings... and she says it's easier than you think.

Have you looked on the ingredient list of salad dressings? The list can be quite overwhelming and with lots of additives- sugar and/or salt to name a few. Making your own salad dressings or marinades is not too hard as long as you have a few basic ingredients on hand. Here are two of my favorite, easy recipes.

Turmeric Ginger Salad Dressing

  • 3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1-2 tbsp. honey
  • 2 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • Pinch of black pepper (to help absorb turmeric)

Easy Poppy Seed Dressing

  • 3 tbsp. avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp. onion powder
  • 1-2 tbsp. honey
  • 2 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

Both of these can stay in the fridge for two weeks. Enjoy!
