KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Zoo Knoxville's crazy ape will be celebrating his sweet 16 this weekend!!
You can join the celebration for Georgie, the white-handed gibbon, on Saturday, Oct. 12 beginning at 10 a.m. Keepers will decorate Georgie's day room with party gear and do a special enrichment session with him. You can then chat with his keepers at 11 a.m. to ask them any questions about the gibbons.
Georgie is also the star of the Zoo Knoxville Gibbon Cam on WBIR.com, which you can watch anytime, and if you are lucky, get a glimpse of him swinging wildly through his exhibit.
The soon-to-be 16-year-old lives with his girlfriend, Malay, who is 18. Zookeepers are hoping to two will eventually get together and have some babies! White-handed gibbons can live to be 45 years old in captivity, so they are in the prime of their lives.
Georgie's favorite foods are fruits and veggies, but no sugar, despite how energetic he is. He just has a crazy, fun-loving personality that makes him a favorite of zoo visitors.
