Tennessee Theatre hosts first-ever Marquee Awards to honor high school musicals

The Marquee Awards are dedicated to supporting the talents, education and opportunities of high school theater students in East Tennessee.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — East Tennessee high school musicals will be celebrated with a first-of-it's kind event at the Tennessee Theatre on Saturday, May 11.

The Marquee Awards will be handed out to honor area high school musical theater. The awards are dedicated to supporting the talents, education and opportunities of high school theater students in East Tennessee to build a strong and inclusive theater community.

Just like the Tony's, the Marquee celebrates the work in front of and behind the scenes for musical students.

Some categories are awarded to the school, while others are awarded to individual performers and/or crew members. The following categories that will be awarded include:

  • Outstanding Ensemble/Chorus
  • Outstanding Choreography Execution
  • Outstanding Overall Musical
  • Outstanding Technical Execution
  • Outstanding Student Design
  • Outstanding Lead Actor
  • Outstanding Lead Actress
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress

The Marquee Awards will start at 7 p.m. Tickers are $35 per person.
