On Tuesday, Steven Tyler confirmed what folks on Music Row have been murmuring about for months: the Aerosmith frontman has been working on a country album in Nashville.

Tyler made a surprise appearance at Tuesday night's "Grand Ole Opry" to share the news. But he hasn't been keeping his recent activity in Music City a secret. Over the last few months, he's tweeted photos from the studio with songwriters/artists Eric Paslay, Hilary Lindsey, Cary Barlowe, Nathan Barlowe and Lindsey Lee Taylor.

The 67-year-old rocker also performed with Brad Paisley for last year's "CMA Country Christmas" TV special, and invited Carrie Underwood to sing on Aerosmith's 2012 album "Music From Another Dimension!" He also popped up at a writers round at the Bluebird Cafe in 2013 to sing with co-writer Marti Frederiksen.

No details on Tyler's country album have followed his big announcement, but Billboard reports he's set to sign with Scott Borchetta's Big Machine Label Group.
