'A brother in Christ' | Kanye West event in Pigeon Forge sold out

The singer plans to bring a 100-person choir with him when he performs at a Christian youth conference in January.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — It might not sound like traditional gospel, but Kanye West says "Jesus is King."

It's the title of his new album and the pop superstar is planning to bring his talents to Pigeon Forge on January 19.

January's Strength to Stand conference at the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge runs from Jan. 18 to 20 and has brought in thousands of Christian students from sixth grade to college to East Tennessee for decades.

Organizers said it was at capacity only hours after the news of West's involvement broke.

"Having Pigeon Forge's name associated with Kanye West we're going to get publicity from lost of different places," Leon Downey, the Pigeon Forge Director of Tourism, said.

"He is a cultural icon so we're thrilled to have him be a part of our conference," organizer and preacher Scott Dawson said.

"I feel very comfortable and confident that I was speaking with a brother in Christ and you know he's got a long way to go, I've got a long way to go, we've all got a long way to go," he said.

At his Sunday service in Houston last month West, along with his wife Kim Kardashian, said he's a changed man:

"All of that arrogance and confidence and cockiness that y'all seen me use before, God is now using for him," he said.

Tickets sold out soon after the announcement.

"We were averaging about 100 churches an hour that were contacting us," Dawson said.

The cheapest rate, $80 per person to see the pop superstar and newly self-crowned champion for Jesus.

Dawson said more than 11,000 people are expected to attend the conference.
